The Urban Transportation Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago is assisting the Illinois Department of Transportation in the development of an inventory of public and specialized transportation providers within the state of Illinois. In addition to this Statewide Public and Specialized Transportation Provider Inventory, we are also developing a GIS system that will facilitate spatial analysis of the demand for such services and the actual services provided.

The TRANPRO Information Management System aims to faciiltate coordination efforts outlined within the Illinois Human Service Transportation Plans by providing consistent comparable data at the regional level. This includes the provider inventory and relevant socio-economic data that can be used in evaluating demand for and delivery of services. Another goal would be to provide data that can assist HSTP coordinators in guiding transportation providers through the JARC and New Freedom application and reporting processes.

In addition to our goal of assisting in the transportation coordination process, longer term goals are to develop sufficient data, resources and user tools to assist in mobility management for targeted low income, senior and disabled populations.

The development of the system is in an early, ongoing phase. We have completed an initial provider inventory, and will continue to develop data related to transportation services offered by public and specialized providers. The initial provider inventory is offered here online, geocoded by county, HSTP and Regional Planning Area.

The GIS portion of the website offers an ArcIMS application showing the distribution of transportation services by service areas defined by residential eligibility.

The HSTP section of the website is designed to serve the needs of Illinois's HSTP Coordinators and is available only through special user accounts. Here we have provided county-level Census data from the 2000 Demographic Census and the 2002 Economic Census. These data are available as zip files and are organized by HSTP. In addition, we will be providing population forecasts for the total population and senior and disabled populations.
